People from as far as the United Kingdom and Australia will be walking in celebration with participants in Nelson Mandela Bay and from other parts of the country, in the first-ever Virtual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer presented by the Eastern Cape Department of Health.

The five kilometre Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer, which usually takes place along the Port Elizabeth beach-front, will go “LIVE” on the 31st of October 2020 and will embrace the enthusiastic participation by people around South Africa and the Globe.

Instead of turning the Port Elizabeth beach-front into a sea of pink, participants have been encouraged to walk in support of those affected by cancer in their very own neighbourhoods.

Early birds who enter will qualify for a free limited-edition 2020 T-Shirt, to serve as a reminder of the tumultuous year this has been.

There is also a selection of other merchandise available, such as socks and beanies.

“This year’s Big Walk for Cancer has been opened up for participants to join us from wherever they are to support those who have been touched by this disease. We are so happy that the message is reaching people as far away as the UK and Australia”, says Algoa FM’s Marketing Manager, Lesley Geyer.

“Cancer is one of the deadliest diseases if not detected early. Through this walk we are raising awareness so that people can get screened, tested and treated – and we are encouraging participants to wear their 2020 pink T-shirts and walk with us in celebration of the lives of those affected by cancer on that day,” she says.

On the date that this media release was issued, the suburb with the most entries was Lorraine in Port Elizabeth, followed by the Ibhayi area.
