Algoa FM teamed up with other Garden Route businesses to sponsor buckets of soup and loaves of bread for the needy through an NQtac Hotel School initiative in partnership with the George Business Chamber.
Needy homeless shelters, elderly and disability groups, schools and crèches were identified by the George Chamber on recommendations from affiliates of NGOs involved in community projects, according to Angelique Strydom, Algoa FM’s account executive in George.
Mary-Anne Loose and Bernadette Schaap from the George Business Chamber co-ordinated the businesses collecting the soup and bread and linked them to the beneficiaries in George, Pacaltsdorp, Blanco, Thembalethu and Uniondale.
Strydom helped deliver and serve soup to the children of the Rosemoor Crèche in George on July 18.

“Algoa FM is honoured to be part of this wonderful partnership between business, non-governmental organisations and the hospitality sector,” she says.
Chef Marco van Rooyen and students currently studying at the NQtac Hotel School in George prepared 1 000 litres of vegetable soup and 200 loaves of bread for distribution on June 18 and during the rest of Mandela Week.
Each bucket and bread combination provided a meal for 40 people.
Other Garden Route businesses which partnered in the project include the George Herald, Heather Park Super Spar, Friendly Farmer, Eden Fresh, Table Top Fresh, and Prince of Tarts. At the same time, Fancourt provided freezer space for storage.
“This partnership to assist the underprivileged in the Garden Route demonstrates Algoa FM’s commitment to supporting people and business in the region,” says Algoa FM managing director Alfie Jay.
Meanwhile, Algoa FM is raising funds for the Leolan Academy in Mossel Bay through the annual Algoa Cares Golf Day, which will be hosted on Tuesday, August 1 at the Pinnacle Point Golf Club in Mossel Bay.
